Will they grow?
Dirt in the Kitchen
We decided to plant our indoor seeds today.
We have a patio door (with no deck) in our kitchen and thought this would be the perfect spot to have our seedlings with the sunlight. It faces the west so hopefully this will be enough sunlight.
All of the things: potting mix, seeds, pots were already sitting in our kitchen waiting for this day. So why not mix up our potting mix and soil in a tote on the kitchen floor. The kids did lay a tarp down and I have to say, it stayed fairly clean and on the tarp.

Filling the pots
We wanted to make sure our vegetables would be big enough to transplant once the last frost is gone. Our last frost date is May 9th and that’ll give us about eight weeks until then. I do feel like past years, we have had neighbors plant their garden based on the last frost date and ended up having frost afterwards resulting in losing some of their garden. We live in zone 4B.

Pots on the shelf
The kids ended up planting two raspberry plants, six Early Treat tomatoes, six BushSteak tomatoes, eight broccoli, one pot of lemon balm, and one pot of spearmint placed on heating pads. We debated about adding lights above them but we’re hoping with the location the pots are in they will have adequate sunlight.
We do have a little pot of radishes, basil, and microgreens on our kitchen table which looks like they have started to sprout. Our mint plant I bought the other day has come back to life as well.

The kids and I are looking forward to growing our own food to nourish our bodies.
